Steve Jendricks takes "Best in Show" |
| Congratulations
to Steve Jendricks for taking "Best in Show" at
our 22nd Annual Duckboat Show and Waterfowl Festival. Out
of 17 entries, Steve took top honors with his one-man
grass boat. The judges said it was hard to choose the
"Best in Show" from all the 1st place
contestants. Way to go Steve. November 2002 will go down in the record books for the South Shore Waterfowlers. In all the years as Show Chairman, this was the best show to date. We had great weather again (hopefully a trend is establishing). There were good numbers at the gate as well as an above average number of boats, either entered, showed, or for sale. Some shining points were the above average number of vendors that attended. We had them come from New Jersey, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. The scouting that the officers and some members did at the Tuckerton Show in New Jersey really paid off. Hopefully we can target more of these types of vendors next year at that show. By increasing the vendor number each year, hopefully we can increase the number of visitors to our show. More people would make the vendors want to come back each year. The Web site had a big influence on the attendance at the show. Many people contacted me for directions and information. Isn't technology great!

The pre-selling of the Duckboat Show Raffle
was a terrific idea. We almost doubled the take on the
gun raffle from last year. The gun and annual raffle
should really help to go toward some good projects next
year. The one dark cloud that appeared at the show was the problem we had with the bathrooms. There seemed to be a miscommunication as to the date that the Town could winterize the facility. It was anti- freezed the week before the show. I will promise to make sure it doesn't happen again at future shows. Here's a recap of the 1 st Place boat winners: One-Man Grass Boat- Steve
Jendricks Decoy winners: Sandy Allen took "Best in Show" with a drake common merganser in the divers category. George Williams took "Best in Class" with his puddle duck. Curt
