Those
are the words of Secretary of State, Randy
Daniels, when he spoke on August 13 of the new
wildlife area at Point Lookout. He presented to
Supervisor Kate Murray of Hempstead, the rights
to the 50 acre plot. It was New York State
property that was turned over to the Town of
Hempstead for a wildlife observation area.

The officers of the SSWA
were invited to attend the event. They wanted to
recognize our club for the effort we are putting
into the project. The SSWA is partnering with the
Department of Conservation and Waterways to help
get the project under way.
On Sunday, August 17, ten volunteers spent the
whole morning cleaning up debris from the marsh.
We collected approximately a 40-yard dumpster of
wood and garbage from the marsh.
This was the first of many clean-ups we will be
involved with. We hope our club will get some
recognition as a group dedicated to the lands and
waters. We are not a group that only takes from
the land, but puts back through its volunteer
work. We are trying to become stewards of this
site and keep up with restoration of this piece
of property.
I will keep everyone informed of our next
clean-up so we can all help out. The key to this
work is "Partnerships."
